At the 1997 annual meeting of the CICS board of directors, members voted in favour of changing the name of the Canadian Industrial Computer Society to IFAC-Canada. Shortly thereafter IFAC Secretariat and to the Canadian Minister of Industry granted the change of name from CICS to IFAC-Canada.
